Privacy Policy

Draft version 0.7, October 2026. Pending legal review.

What we collect

• Your email address, if you sign in. We use it to sign you in by emailed link, or receive it from Google or Apple if you choose "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Apple". We receive only your name and email from them, never your password.
• Photos you choose to scan. Barcodes are read on your own device. If a photo has no readable barcode, it is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to read the product name printed on it, then discarded. We do not store your photos. We keep a count of photo look-ups per account to enforce daily limits.
• Barcodes you match to a product, which are shared with all users so the next person can find that product.
• Your cellar records: the items, purchases, ratings and notes you enter. These are private to your account.
• Business details, if you register a business (producer, tobacconist, cigar roller, pipe maker or grower): business name, website, location, contact name, phone, product submissions and spec sheets. Your contact name and phone are private and used only to confirm the business and reach you.
• Public profiles and listings. If a business chooses a public profile, the profile (name, location, website, “About”, and the details it enters such as hours or varieties grown) and the items it marks as public, with prices and availability, are shown to everyone after we review them.
• Prints ordered through an Authorized Reseller. The shop may enter your name and email so it can follow up. The shop sees those details, the prints and the amount of its sales, never your card or your address. Payment and delivery details are handled by our store provider.
• Reseller payout details: the payout method and mailing address or PayPal email a reseller chooses, and whether we have its W-9. We never store bank account numbers on this site.
• The Tobacco Report: if you sign in, the stories you save, the topics you follow, and whether you asked for the morning email. These are private to your account. Headlines link to other publishers’ websites, which have their own privacy policies.
• Tobacco Agri-tourism posts: stories, photos and visit listings a business posts. Once approved, they are public. Photos are stored with random file names; please do not include anything you would not want public, such as a home address or a car license plate.
• Email sign-ups: if you sign up for The Tobacco Report, job alerts or event emails, your email address, which emails you chose, the page you signed up on, your 21-or-older confirmation and when you confirmed. We use it only to send those emails. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, which deletes your address from the list.
• Job postings and events a business posts, which are public once approved. Applications go straight from you to the employer by its own link or email; we do not see or keep them.
• Classifieds: listings, which are public once approved, and messages between buyers and sellers, which only the two of you and our reviewer can read. For cured leaf, the company name and federal permit number a buyer gives are passed to the seller.
• Advertising inquiries: the name, business, email, phone and message you send from the Advertise page, used only to reply.
• Blend recipes you save in My Cellar. These are private to your account.
• Files you upload. Spreadsheets are read in your own browser; only the rows you choose to save are sent to us. We do not keep the file itself.
• Your age confirmation: a yes/no record that you confirmed you are 21 or older.
• Browser storage: this site saves your age confirmation and your Blend Finder search in your own browser so you are not asked again.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
• We do not show your cellar to anyone else.
• We do not take card payments on this site. Print orders are paid through our store provider, which handles your payment and shipping details under its own privacy policy.

Who processes data for us

Accounts and records are stored with Supabase. Photo reading uses Anthropic. Sign-in with Google or Apple is handled by those companies. Emails are sent by Resend. Weather for growing regions comes from Open-Meteo, which receives only the regions’ map coordinates, never yours. Orders are handled by BigCommerce and printed and shipped by our print partner. The site is hosted by Netlify.

Your choices

• Download your cellar or business records at any time, and print reports of them.
• Delete any record yourself, or ask us to delete your account and all its data.
• A business can switch off its public profile, hide any item, or ask us to remove its listings.

Age

This site is for adults 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
