The Great Tobacco Appellations
Wine lovers know Bordeaux and Barolo. The leaf has its great places too.
The same seed grown in different soil, sun and rain makes a different leaf, and generations of growers, curing barns and local know-how make each region’s leaf its own. Here are the growing regions behind the elements on our tables, from the Vuelta Abajo to St. James Parish, each with what grows there.

Speak for a growing region?
Growers’ associations, cooperatives, regional boards and farm families: tell your region’s story, share photos of the fields, and invite visitors. Thinking of growing your own? Start with our guide for future tobacco farmers. Register as a Grower to post in Tobacco Agri-tourism and appear on Meet the Grower, or write to us about featuring your appellation.
“Appellation” is used here in its everyday sense of a named growing region known for its leaf; it does not mean a region holds a legal designation of origin. Regions, elements and source codes come from the Terroir Map of The Periodic Tobacco Tables and its Source Register, printed with the poster. For adults 21 and older. Page version 1.2, October 2026.
