Federal excise tax estimator

For small makers and importers: the federal excise tax on cigars and pipe tobacco at the rates in 26 U.S.C. 5701.

Rates from 26 U.S.C. 5701: small cigars $50.33 per thousand; large cigars 52.75 percent of the sale price, capped at 40.26 cents per cigar; pipe tobacco $2.8311 per pound; roll-your-own $24.78 per pound. An estimate only, not tax advice; how “sale price” is figured for large cigars is defined by TTB rules. Check current rates with TTB.

Plants per acre

For growers: how many transplants you need for your row and plant spacing.

Plants per acre = 43,560 ÷ (row width × in-row spacing ÷ 144), the formula in the University of Kentucky spacing table. More in Grow Your Own Leaf.
